AMANDA is an acronym for Advanced Maryland Automatic Network Disk Archiver, a backup system that allows LAN administrators to make one main server is backing up multiple computers at once to a backup tape or large-capacity disk drives.

history
Amanda’s original program code was written by James da Silva at the Department of Computer Science University of Maryland, where diawalinya making this program. Subsequently taken over by Blair Zajac who served on the version 2.3.0 in order to change Amanda uses GNU Autoconf for configuration.
